๐ Square (CC Processor) possible security issue?

Recently I was purchasing some items from a store that used the Square app to process my credit card. They asked me for a receipt and I declined. But shortly after the transaction my girl friend let me know that she got an email receipt to her email address.
I have never shopped at that store before. They have absolutely never had mine or her email address.
It is possible at one point in the past we used my credit card and had a receipt emailed to her address, at a different unrelated store.
This is not a shared CC.
Why did Square save this email address I may have used once for a receipt? Was this vendor able to see that info? Or did Square just send the email on its own. I don't have a square account. So they appear at the very least to be saving information about you from one off transactions.
It just seems like really bad practice any way you break it down.
Ex: Say I refused a receipt, and a stalker cashier enters their email. Now they get emails on any Square transactions I might have, and I would never know.
