Samsung to launch "600 MP Camera Sensors" that work better than our "Human Eyes"

South Korean tech giant Samsungย officially announced that it is working on an image sensor that could be better than the human eye with an image resolution of 600MP, along with other types of sensors that can "register smells or tastes". Moreover,ย Samsung was the first company to launch a "108MP camera sensor" for smartphones in collaboration with Xiaomi last year, by using โNonacell technologyโ for itsย Galaxy S20 Ultra.
Yongin Park,ย EVP, Head of Sensor Business Team, System LSI Business, Samsung Electronics said in a statement;
Not only are we developing image sensors, but we are also looking into other types of sensors that can register smells or tastes. Sensors that even go beyond human senses will soon become an integral part of our daily lives, and we are excited by the potential such sensors to have to make the invisible visible and help people by going beyond what our own senses are capable of.
Further, The Company is aiming that -- "Simply putting as many pixels as possible together into a sensor might seem like the easy fix, but this would result in a massive image sensor that takes over the entirety of a device. In order to fit millions of pixels in todayโs smartphones that feature other cutting-edge specs like high screen-to-body ratios and slim designs, pixels inevitably have to shrink so that sensors can be as compact as possible".
A 600MP sensor would be massive in size, making it nearly impossible to fit inside a modern smartphone. In order to shrink the sensor, Samsung will have to reduce the pixel size, which would require the use of pixel binning tech to ensure the smaller pixels don't result in dull pictures. Samsung's 108MP ISOCELL Bright HM1 sensor uses its proprietary 'Nonacell technology,' which boasts a 3x3 pixel structure. This allows nine 0.8ฮผm pixels to function as one large 2.4ฮผm pixel to deliver impressive low-light performance.
A high megapixel sensor does not automatically mean better image quality though. The human eye is said to match a resolution of around 500 megapixels. Samsung, however, is working on bringing a 600MP camera sensor to the market, which could be used in various fields such as smartphones, autonomous vehicles, drones, and IoT.
