🐧 Is there any way I can use one drive for 2 computers?

My dad dug up his old(really, really old) work laptop. I was working on installing Puppy Linux DPup Stretch, but it states that it needs PAE. Just my luck though, it's one of the only computers since the late 90s without PAE. It also isn't able to boot from USB. Can I install an OS(I've found a mint distro without need for PAE) on the hard drive by putting it in my laptop, then putting it back in the old laptop. Does this work? I've never tried anything like this before.
