Everything present in the Screenshots is currently functional in the launcher but their code is incomplete and may be unstable in its current version.
--The possibilities being an Open source and free software:
modification has 200% of the menu interface. All the images in the menu of the beta version are from the development of the Original Pack of the Launcher but anyone can make his own menu customize and share it with others and here are all the features concerning the customization of the Launcher on any operating system:
•the format of the thumbnails can be changed
•thumbnails can be modified
•the background can be changed
•Video preview can be modified
•layers 1, 2 and 3 presents when you select an application can also be modified
•If you use after effect you can also put videos recorded in RGB + Alpha format instead of images for the selected thumbnails.
•all icons can be changed
breff you have understood everything you see on the screen and want to change is possible.
Namely that to proceed to the development of your own Library Pack it is enough to modify a file which can be in JSON, XML or TXT format and which will contain the path of the various files which will be recovered and all their information. You should also know that the registered paths can come from your own computer or also from HTML links that would lead to images or videos in particular which will allow something great since you won't need to install a big Library Pack on your system to use it if you want to but instead you will just have to copy the link of the pack available online in the launcher to use it but the constraint is obviously that without internet connection the interface will be empty.
Knowing that the creation of your own library pack is accessible to everyone, it requires no programming knowledge... so if you are an expert or a Photoshop lover, you can have fun designing your own pack and maybe propose it to the community.
--Concerning the organization files:
You can for the moment add only 5 different categories (Nintendo emulator, movie,...) each with a maximum of 50 applications for the moment.
--Concerning the launch of the applications:
You can launch any type of file (exe, bat, py, js, sh,...) the launcher will only execute a command file that starts your file from the path you assigned it in the JSON configuration file. Any type of file can be launched from the launcher, in other words, you can completely introduce command lines in a file with custom parameters for the application you want to run and execute it while launching the command file in the launcher.
--User profiles:
You can add up to 8 different profiles for the moment but this may evolve if the software is used for purposes other than multimedia but rather in the field of education with servers as a storage center.
Otherwise the possibilities of configuration of its profile are as follows:
Choose a default image or take an image on the operating system or an online image by HTML link. Each profile can use the same Library Pack or different Custom Packs. You will also have the possibility to add a password to your profile that can also be configured from the Launcher configuration files.
-- The Launcher's main asset:
The possibility of a total navigation without mouse or keyboard on Linux but just with a joystick, a remote control or a touch screen while continuing to use in a normal way its operating system through the launcher.
--Things to come if I can continue the development:
Add the possibility to make your own add-on module, assign actions to it and add it to the launcher. Basically the possibility to make your own widgets like for example adding a feature to notify when a download is finished or maybe when you receive new mail or adding a button that proceeds to the execution of commands present in a sh file, it's up to you to see according to your needs.
You will be able to develop your widget by setting it up in an XML, JSON or TXT file and adding it to the widget folder.
--Okay, that's all really cool, but you need to know something really important:
Unfortunately, I can't go any further on this project which was absolutely not intended to be published but was entirely for my personal use in my room and to have fun with my little sister at Mario kart 8 with CEMU on my TV and to watch shows on Netflix when we have holidays and all that originally because my TV is a model that doesn't have a navigation interface and operating system and I probably wouldn't have done anything if I hadn't taken out an old laptop that was collecting dust and made me want to recycle it by making it into a TV box. The software, even in its beta version, wasn't meant to evolve as it just had to allow me to navigate on my computer with a remote control and run the applications I added, that's all.-- The status of the Launcher today:
The base of the launcher is functional and I don't meet for the moment any great difficulty for its development since I already master the whole development of the functionalities which are there and which will perhaps be added there. Here is a summary of what it is made of today:
-Ability to add any application in the launcher
-Ability to completely customize application thumbnails
-Ability to add videos as a summary of the selected app
-Ability to add information in the form of a small thumbnail of the selected application
-Ability to add additional information about the selected application
-To be able to do live flow tests
-Ability to see the number of connected devices
-Ability to see connected friends
-Ability to sort applications by category
-Ability to add movies
-Ability to add series
-Ability to add hyperlink files of series and movies
-Ability to add social network notifications... in real time
-control the cursor with a remote control or joystick
-To be able to navigate on the Linux virtual keyboard with a remote control or joystick and this feature is only available for 1920x1080 displays at the moment.
-To be able to add user profiles
-WIFI or Ethernet notification
-a maximum display resolution of 2560x1440
-Why I'm showing you my work:
I'm just a student who likes to do some computer development in his spare time, except that I have less and less time for studies and the pressure to work more and more and it's starting to get really heavy. I've tried to push the launcher development as much as possible, but I've reached the end, I don't have the time anymore and I can't afford to spend so much time on it.
I could stop the development of this software so as not to add an extra weight between my studies and the fact that I have to go to work but after publishing on a whim a screenshot and a small demo that just highlighted the aesthetics of the launcher and the addition of emulation applications such as CEMU and YUZU in the menu, and all this just to share my work with the community, a lot of people asked me to distribute it as a free download on GitHub except that it is unfortunately not possible in the current state of things and the development stage the launcher is in.
There is a solution:
I could allow myself to stop working which would save me about 60% of free time to devote only to development until the end of the software, but for that I need to make sure that I can really stop working and count on savings for several weeks, except that I don't have any and that it's already complicated to have any...
I've never done this before and I'm still hesitating until now, but do you think that opening a Kickstarter could help me in my situation? I'm really afraid of the reliability of this kind of system, I have absolutely no experience in this area.
