🐧 Are Dark Themes All Hype?

I love a good dark theme don't get me wrong. My favorites are Breeze Dark and Arc Dark.

Recently I've just been using the stock Adwaita theme (non-dark variant) and I've noticed that I am now able to see the words better when reading Wikipedia, Reddit, and other heavy text based sites.

Perhaps the most interesting thing I noticed was that I now tend to lower the brightness on my laptop screen significantly (roughly 15-20% darker). The brighter color palette was so much more intense on the brighter setting so now with the a lowered backlight my battery lasts a marginally longer and my eyes are way less strained and fatigued. I'm guessing the lower brightness isn't assaulting my eyes as much.

I'm not an expert by any means and I like the look of dark themes aesthetically , but I don't think they help me much with readability or my eye health.
