๐ Anyone have any tips for pulseeffects?

First of all I gotta say I never thought my system in such a mediocre form could sound so good. I haven't even played with any of the config options such as setting a higher sample rate etc.
Now over the last couple weeks I've spent a ton of time messing with EQ's trying to dial in settings for my desktop speakers and headphones, and variations depending on the music being played (everything from Patsy Cline to Devlish Trio to Analepsy just to name a few).
In general all I've played with are 1) Eq 2) Bass enhancer 3) stereo tools, with the EQ always the final say in the chain.
I began playing with different eq types aside from the default bell and setting both ends of the spectrum to their respective low/high shelves and using an LRX(BT) type, and noticed the radical changes you can accomplish in sound. My main goals were achieving a snappy snare while at the same time not ending up with distorted symbols.. Ive gone as far as full blown 30 channel eq, really I've spent way too much time fudging with this stuff
But I got fed up one day lost in a sea of settings and dramatically varying levels of production in my sound sources (eg I'd nail the bass n highs for one bands **album** but the next would be clipping and awful) and ended up setting mostly flat 10 channel EQ with and I made the addition of adding in Auto Gain.. and I think I've come across the best sounding set up so far.
- My chain is spotify (highest quality no normalize) @ 50% into pulse with Eq > Auto Gain > Bass Enhancer > stereo tools
- Eq is 10 band iir, auto calculated frequencies, except the 16khz is running a high shelf, quality3 LRX(BT) eq, and the low end 32hz resonance 10hz width LRX(BT). With these two I seem to have muuuuch better control of the highs and the whole sound. None of the sliders are above 2 and I dip the 1khz to -1 (pretty much always scoop out the mid a bit). For brevity, the freq/vals are 1,2,2,1,0,-1,1,1,2,1 from 32Hz to 16KHz
- Auto gain is set to detect silence and use geometric mean with a target of -16, in/out at 0/0
- Bass enhancer basically stock except I dropped the harmonics down to 8.5 and the scope up to 185hz (I find between 185-205 it really opens up the sound). I play with setting a floor, but by and large i find it more stable not to set a floor. I tweak the blend harmonics towards the 2nd. All in all it just adds a bit more to the lows without blowing them the fuck out and overpowering everything. My sub itself is currently at about 1/4 vs the 1/2 I used to have it at prior)
- Stereo Tools I have that set up to softclip @ 1.0, side and mid boosted 1db (Which seems weird to me since I scoop out the 1khz, but it just sounds better.. dunno), I boost the stereo base between 0.1 and 0.3 which seems to clear up some muddiness, and I add a L/R delay of 0.03-0.05ms, which isn't as apparent with my speakers, but when I have the headphones on is actually quite dramatic in its effect..
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now I really have no idea what I'm doing.
I read the help/manual provided but a lot of this has just really been trial and error but its seems to have resulted in a fairly well rounded sound that stays consistent across different albums without having to CONSTANTLY fuck with levels due to clipping or otherwise.. auto gain really has been a god send.
I guess my question is, any PE veterans out there who can share any sort of tidbits?
Anything I've done sound horrifically wrong? As I said I'm not on anything audiophile quality at all nor do I expect that, nor am I even trying to pretend I am anything of the sort but so far these settings have made a drammmaaatic improvement.
If I had to advise anything (and really, take this with a huge grain of salt) it would be to make minor changes,, dont be ham fisted especially with the eq.. wild curves look cool but it is almost counter intuitive and there are sweet spots you can easily miss over when making large adjustments
