A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP/Server 2003 (Operating System). Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the component RPCSS. Applying the patch MS04-012 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at windowsupdate.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Attack attempts may be identified with Snort ID 9601. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 2772. ...
