Multi Disk LVM Write Performance?

I have a logical volume consisting of 5 disks and am interested in maximizing parallization (but not doing RAID 0 or striping due to possible drive failure).

I'm in logical mode right now with regards to the array. If I do 2 writes in parallel (say 2 different file transfers over the network), since they get written to separate disks, does this come with a performance penalty like on a single drive? Or does LVM write to 2 seperate disks in the array thus minimizing seek time of the drive head?
