I want to save all of my game footage, movies, tv shows on one hard drive, and then connect it to my television via a cable. I do not want to depend on internet connectivity. I envision using LINUX for my GUI+OS to navigate the files and play the files.

Does anyone know how I can do this? Can I simply get any HDD with an HDMI port, maybe a Rasp Pi, and format it with Linux, and then load my movies onto it, and then take it with me to another television somewhere else?
