๐ Avoiding Plaintext Password in Application Config File

I'm trying to do this: https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/comments/m503y3/install_opencanary_on_raspberry_pi_ubuntu_2010/
However in the config file I need to put a Gmail password, but I don't want to store it in plaintext. Could I create a hash and put that there instead, would that work? How would I do that?
