Hi! After a few weeks of work, I'm proud to announce the Prebuilt-MPR, a Chaotic-AUR-like system for Debian and Ubuntu based systems.
This repository provides APT packages sourced from the MPR, an AUR-like platform for Debian and Ubuntu. The MPR itself is powered by makedeb, a packaging tool for Debian and Ubuntu systems that uses PKGBUILDs, the same packaging format seen on Arch Linux.
How is this secure?
The Prebuilt-MPR gets semi-automatically updated with the MPR's packages automatically. But since the provided build files are user-generated, you need to make sure that those files are safe.
The Prebuilt-MPR solves this in a rather simple way. For a new package (or package version update) to enter the Prebuilt-MPR repository, it must first go through a review process, after which it is built, deployed, and ready to be installed by end users. This prevents things like malware from getting through, and ensures that any package you install from the Prebuilt-MPR is ready to be used in any environment, including production.
How can I help?
This is the main reason I made this post in the first place. The Prebuilt-MPR is in major need of help with reviewing packages for entry into the Prebuilt-MPR.
The main thing you can do right now is just review and merge package PRs. If you'd like to help with that, you can reach out in makedeb's Support Rooms, and a team member will reach out to you if they're interested in you helping out.
If you already use makedeb (or if you're a new user after seeing this post), you can also just create MPR packages to get integrated into the Prebuilt-MPR. You can find instructions on doing that here: https://docs.makedeb.org/using-the-mpr/uploading-packages/.
