๐ AlmaLinux VS CentOS Stream for development platform and potential future production usage.

I have recently built a local development server host system and was planning to use CentOS as the OS for the system.
It's my first time ever setting up a local server system and was hoping to get some input on the different types of Linux distributions.
However upon research I've discovered that CentOS Linux is being discontinued as a enterprise-stable open-source operation system and now Red Hat is putting their focus on the CentOS Stream as an upstream development branch. Since the discovery, I've been looking for an alternative to the CentOS Linux and it seems like AlmaLinux is being branded as the replacement.
Now, I'm considering both AlmaLinux and CentOS Stream as the OS for the system and I'm going to explain how I plan to use the system for future:
- Currently I'm only using this system for development purposes for the company's upcoming website and its going to be used like I mentioned as a local development server hosting platform.
- However, in future we might want to progress into production and was wondering if we wanted to proceed with AlmaLinux, could we still get the licensing from RHEL or is it better to just go with CentOS Stream for production purposes in the start.
To me it seems like Alma Linux is a great open-source OS for development purpose, but I don't know if it's better to use AlmaLinux over CentOS Stream if we ever want to migrate our data to production platform. I'm just a little afraid of the "potential" production licensing issue if we go with the Alma Linux.
Here are few things that I gathered through researching: *When I say [CentOS Linux] I'm referring to the "old" CentOS that operated as the free downstream distribution from RHEL. And [CentOS Stream] is the new upstream testing platform that RHEL is pushing.*
-AlmaLinux is supported by CloudLinux (not owned by Red Hat) and plenty of work has been into it as CloudLinux has been around for 10 years.
- Both AlmaLinux and CentOS Linux is based on RHEL.
- AlmaLinux is last in line to receive updates (T/f it's very stable and tested), where CentOS Stream has access to latest features and updates as it will constantly be updating through a stream.
- AlmaLinux is a 1:1 binary fork of RHEL like CentOS linux
- From my understanding to sum up the comparison between CentOS Linux, CentOS Stream and AlmaLinux are...
- CentOS Linux and AlmaLinux are practically identical for their purpose except for which company supporting it. AlmaLinux is the current best alternative to CentOS Linux after its end of life at 2024.
- CentOS Stream pushes its ability to have earlier access to updates and latest features and AlmaLinux prioritizes stability. AlmaLinux seems like its the safer option unless one is already running RHEL in production or is determined to get licensing from RH.
Like I said I'm really new to server hosting and Linux OS, so if there is any misunderstanding in any of the statement above please correct me and putting any of your input on the topic would be very much appreciated :)
Any suggestion on either running AlmaLinux or CentOS Stream for my platform would also be greatly appreciated!
