MacBook: will decrypting and re-encrypting SSD with FileVault cause deleted files to be unrecoverable?
Hi everyone, I have a MacBook with SSD I used to use for work. Encrypted with FileVault. Weโve recently been given new laptops and now my MacBook will be personal use only.
I have deleted all work files on it but want to make sure theyโre unrecoverable (I deal with personal information for work). If I turn off FileVault and then turn it back on to re-encrypt, will the deleted data be lost forever due of having been encrypted with a now-obsolete key? And the rest of the data (non-deleted) is re-encrypted?
Note: I have a lot of non-confidential stuff on the drive so Iโd rather not wipe the whole thing and do a Time Machine backup if that can be avoided.
