๐ Virtual Machine: Can Windows "see inside it"

Hey guys! :D
I'm learning about Virtual Machines and it's quite interesting. With that came the question that I feel isn't as obvious as it sounds lol.
Let's say I use Windows 10, and use Virtual Box to make a Linux-based VM that stores its data on a virtual disk. Does Windows keep any sort of log or "trace" of the activity made on the Linux OS inside the VM, or does all such data get stored inside the VM folder and/or virtual disk only?
App usage? File name? Image/video thumbnails? or anything else that gets logged anywhere outside of the VM's folder and virtual disk file that wouldn't come to mind immediately for a relative beginner like myself ?
Also, does the answer change at all if the VM is located in an encrypted non-system drive?
Thanks for the help guys!
