How do i "clone it on github and run it locally"

Linux Tipps vom 11.01.2019 um 14:06 Uhr | Quelle reddit.com

Thanks for your help. I am a newbee to Linux terminal and would like help with the following. I am trying to make an offline ethereum brainwallet generator and as part of the process one has to do the following:

" Here is the ethaddress.org brain wallet. It's not trustworthy but you can clone it on github and run it locally on an offline machine. Which makes it pretty trustless."

I don't know how to do the ".... clone it on github and run it locally... " part and should be most grateful for any help you can give. Thanks.

Harassment from a local Linux group

Linux Tipps vom 11.01.2019 um 13:48 Uhr | Quelle reddit.com

I’m being harassed and trolled by a local Linux user group. I would contact the moderators, but they are also participating. I’ve unsubscribed from the mailing lists, yet they are still sending me emails. Do I have any recourse, or is there any higher authority that can step in and mitigate?

Linux Engine for Asset Retrieval - speed-profiled C HTTP server - looking for developers and project suggestions

Linux Tipps vom 11.01.2019 um 12:07 Uhr | Quelle reddit.com

Hello everybody,

I'm a creator and maintainer of LEAR - Linux Engine for Asset Retrieval

https://github.com/Glorf/lear
LEAR is an HTTP server designed to be as simple and fast as possible to achieve one task: serve static resources with amazing efficiency. Currently the project is in its early stage, but is gaining momentum and features. At this moment, it delivers small static content faster than nginx. The project aims to use epoll queue and linux non blocking IO for all operations.

LEAR was started in October, gathered warm reception on Hacker News and at the moment I write this, it has 161 gh stars, and 11 forks. But the task is huge and I'm getting short of time handling everything myself. So, I seek both active developers and architecture advisers who could help me make it even better. I'm open to all suggestions that keep the project aim: it's not going to be full HTTP server, it aims to serve just static content efficiently and as such aims to be used by js front-ends and CDNs.

Any comments are appreciated

Running two Linux OS on the same computer, at the same time [Not dual boot]

Linux Tipps vom 10.01.2019 um 20:55 Uhr | Quelle reddit.com

I have two custom OS installations that I would like to run on the same computer. My early thought is to just run one as a VM within the other, or both as a VM in vmware ESXi or something.

I'm thinking their may be a another way, or better way.

One is a custom Ubuntu 16-based Graphical OS that analyzes network packets. The other is a custom Debian 9-based CLI OS that gathers network data and displays it on a network via web console. It has no local graphical interface

So essentially I would want the Debian install to gather and display data on the backend, and then be able to utilize the computer to analyze the data gathered from debian, in the ubuntu OS. Like i said, I'm thinking VM is my best bet, but was wondering if there were any other ideas.

Why doesn't fish get more love

Linux Tipps vom 10.01.2019 um 19:57 Uhr | Quelle reddit.com

A couple of months ago I switched from zsh to fish and I'm amazed. There are so many features that i have to add with a plugin or framework in zsh and Plugin management is much easier. So I wondered why is fish such a small project compared to the huge zsh ecosystem . When in my eyes it's superior .

As a Windows Admin....

Linux Tipps vom 10.01.2019 um 19:01 Uhr | Quelle reddit.com

Any point in me using Linux at home?

I am familiar and have used Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch, etc. However, I am starting to question if I am needlessly creating more work for myself while trying to support from home. We are a 1200+ device organization and it's all Microsoft (AD, 365, Windows, etc.) I guess I am contemplating if I should just be using Windows 10 since in this case it IS the better tool for the job.

Having said that, I am wondering if there is a part of my job (in a full Windows Enterprise) where I could improve myself(productivity or knowledge) by using Linux at home? Thoughts?

Thanks for your time.

[$] A slow start to OpenSUSE's board election

Linux Tipps vom 10.01.2019 um 18:29 Uhr | Quelle lwn.net
What if you announced a board election and nobody ran? That is the quandary the openSUSE project faced as recently as January 4, when the nomination deadline loomed and no candidates for the three open seats had come forward. The situation has since changed, and openSUSE members will have a wide slate of candidates to choose from. But the seeming reticence to come forward may well be a reflection of some unresolved tensions that exploded into a flame war several months ago.

Alternative linux-friendly brokerage to Fidelity for swing trading, IRA, etc

Linux Tipps vom 10.01.2019 um 18:27 Uhr | Quelle reddit.com

I use Fidelity but their Active Trader Pro software usually crashes inside a Windows 10 guest VM. What brokerage / desktop platforms do you active traders, swing traders use that works well under linux? It'd be better if it can easily handle money transfers, IRA, etc, with good tax record keeping, etc. What have you tried and liked or not liked? I currently use thinkorswim from TD Ameritrade, but that's only for charting. Its good for that but it seems it the watchlists have a small size.
