📚 iOS <--> Linux: cloud-synced note-taking app? (that isn't Standard Notes or Joplin)

I'm a compulsive note-taker, but as I continue to migrate away from big tech I've found it challenging to find a note-taking app that meets my criteria:

  • Needs to sync continuously and quickly between iOS and Linux desktop (Syncthing does not work in the background on iOS)
    • Sync needs to be E2EE
  • Needs to be a sleek, quick to deploy and, and easy to use
  • Needs to support bulleted and numbered lists for no fee

I've eliminated the following options

  • Standard notes is paid for anything other than plain text
  • Joplin's UI too clunky and the Sync is too slow for my workflow
  • I can't find any kind of Linux app for Evernote

The three options that I've found, but don't really like, so far are as follows:

  • OneNote kind of works on Linux, but only through a clunky web app through Snap that I really don't like
  • iCloud notes... same issue. Clunky web app through Snap.
  • Obsidian as an app works really well. It can sync for free over Git with some workarounds, but the sync a lot of work to set up (especially with E2EE) with high risk of breaking on iOS.

What do you think is my best option?
