TLDR: would you prefer something like YouTube but it would have privacy, no ads and it would be free but it would have to be downloaded and it would take like... Lets say 20gb?
So, currently I am working on project (just for fun, I don't plan to monetize it) which is like YouTube but it's decentralized (it has nothing to do with cryptocurrencies) which would allow me to host it for free but it's depended on p2p network for storage so users would have to provide some space for the network if they want to use it. There are more passive users then active users (in terms of uploading) so I hope it won't require too much space but I expect it to need quite a lot of space. I am still in phase of figuring things out so it's far from complete but idk if I should even bother with it since people are often really sensitive to bloat and idk if they would be willing to use a platform when it operates like this. I would make it so people can allocate how much space they want (with bottom threshold of course), do you think people like datahoarders or anyone with lot of unused storage space would be willing to share even more space? Also it would operate in similar way to torrent so if you download a video you want to keep you could also seed it which wouldn't cost you any extra space but it would help a network to free up some space for other vids.
There would be more features but that's irelevant for now. I just felt like this might do good in this video platform space cuz rn as far as I know you can either be on YouTube which has ton of ads, weird decision making and not much privacy, then you have nebula I think which has monthly subscription and then firestories but thats dead I think.
Lemme know what you think, even if you think this has no reason to exist and it's not worth developing cuz rn I'm not too deep into the development so it won't be as big of a problem to just throw it away
Also I would like to add that by privacy I ment that there wouldn't be any trackers which are usually used for ads or just data mining
Also2 it's not ment to overthrow YouTube, it's just fun little project
Also3 sorry if this isn't good sub for this but idk where else I could post something like this and I feel like people here might be most qualified to comment on stuff like this since they are interested in this kind of non mainstream things
