🐧 Explain to a beginner why we don't we all agree on a unified package manager? Has this been suggested before by reputable contributors, or would have one package manager not work for a multitude of technical reasons?

This has always been strange to me, that yum, dnf, pacman, whatever all seem to do basically the same thing. It seems to me that documentation would be a lot more unified across distributions. Maybe distributions could work towards combining their resources on more generic kernel, firmware and OS projects and allowing branching distributions to have a lighter workload.
