📚 PSA: Display flickering ONLY when connected to WiFi [Possible Solution]
Albeit a rare problem, you may find your salvation within this thread.
In my router(D-Link DPN-R5402) settings i have changed HT BW from 20/40 MHz to 20 MHz and after that screen have stopped flickering.
This may be a defect only in Macbook Pro 12,1 as I have noticed while scrolling through apple support threads. Others have had this issue in MacOS, I noticed it in every single Linux distro I installed. One post I found described a similar issue in a Dell laptop.
The reason why I'm posting is because I came across other threads from years ago that described the same issue but did not reach a resolution. Hopefully they can find this post.
Other possible solutions I've tried before this:
- Uninstalling and reinstalling WiFi drivers.
- Using VPN to connect to the internet.
- Connecting to other routers.
- Updating my MacOS firmware via a software update.
Alternative solution that I didn't have to try but were mentioned through out my research:
- Adding a 5GHz WiFi channel to your router, and connecting to it.
Disclaimer: You may think your router's HT BW is already set to 20MHz if you look into your wifi settings. But still, log into your router through the web browser and checking the wireless settings.
Instructions: Type in your routers IP into your web browser, the password is generally on the back of your router. My routers web page displayed an "advanced settings" option, I then clicked on the "wireless" tab, and that setting was right there at the bottom.
Just so you know, besides solving the flickering problem, I have no idea what I'm doing.
