🐧 If you were given 1 million dollars to fund the "Linux world", where would you put it and how much change would it be expected to have?

I recently started to think about why Linux desktop isn't as popular as at least macOS (derived from Unix) or Windows. The poll here obviously states a list of potential reasons but IMO, it all boils down to two:
Lack of lead that represents the community. I can't unroll my whole reasoning here but Canonical has my respect. It might not represent the community in every aspect but at least it's a "lead", in the sense that "Try Ubuntu (or Kubuntu etc.)" is probably the first thing you'd say to convince an average Windows user to switch.
Funding, as the title says.
"Donate to whatever projects you like" is an obvious answer but not good enough. Like if people donate to whatever they want, powers are spread and cannot be used to push in one or few "important" directions. I mean you can, but I'm asking more from an effective or efficient perspective.
I can think of a few like... Wayland, Debian, OpenSSH(?) or even Canonical lol but honestly I don't have a good view here. What do you think?
And if you happen to be an popular opensource project maintainer(s) and received a huge funding, what changes can you make with it?
