What distro would be best for my specific needs?

I am running a very old hp laptop as a torrenting machine using arr suite, but it has a really hard time when there are a lot of torrents, and im starting to think it may be ubuntu, and its hardware intensive gui. Should i use a different, headless distro? I only need this machine for these specific needs, and will not use it for anything else.
