Climbing the PyCon US Summit[s]

Open source is at the heart of who we are:

• Anaconda was founded by active members of the Python community.
• Anaconda grew thanks to the Python community’s engagement with Conda.
• Anaconda gives back to the community by supporting Python projects like Beeware, PyScript, the conda package manager, fsspec, Numba (and so the list goes on).

Another, less obvious, way in which open source is at our heart is through the voluntary work of our employees in the community. A case in point being the organisation of two of the summits at this year’s PyCon in Pittsburgh.

The PyCon summits are where passionate, often deeply technical, and important special interest groups within the Python community come together.

Anaconda’s innovation, leadership and community engagement via Conda, means we have a mature and deeply technical background in packaging. Anaconda principal engineer, Jannis Leidel is stepping up to help organise the Packaging Summit along with community friends C.A.M.Gerlach and Pradyun Gedam. Other Anaconda engineers with expertise in packaging will be in attendance to help nourish and grow this most fundamental aspect of Python.

PyScript, an independent open source project created by Anaconda, is a platform for Python in the browser. The underlying technology that enables this is web assembly (also known as WASM). There are many Python projects engaged with WASM, including Pyodide (CPython compiled to WASM) and MicroPython (which also has a WASM port), the two interpreters supported by PyScript. Principal Architect and PyScript creator Fabio Pliger, and principal engineer Nicholas Tollervey are both collaborating with Python buddy Brett Cannon to facilitate the WASM Summit.
