So over the years I have run a variety of distros, currently I'm trying RebornOS (arch based) and can NOT get cups to find the driver for a printer that worked fine on my previous distro EndeavourOS. Before that I ran a debian base for a while and the printer worked great, and at one point I was on another ubuntu/debian that just saw it as a generic printer. Etc...
I would think if cups could find the printer and correct drive on ANY distro it should be able to find it on all distros. But obviously something is going on. I wonder if someone could point me in a direction.
Also worth pointing out that I know my way around linux but the printing subsystem on ANY system is not something I have much experience with. In fact I've summarized the bulk of it above.
Is there some "Cups DLC" I need to install? Do some distros just somehow install a more limited set of printer drivers?
Edit - Solved! Turns out I needed to install avahi (or some components of it) which allowed cups to detect the printer and install correctly. I'll loop back here and mention the steps that actually achieved that once I parse out what all I tied that did and didn't work. Thank you to all who replied.
ippfind reported no access to bonjour which lead me to:
yay -S avahi nss-mdns gtk3 python-dbus python-gobject
after which ipfind reported my correct printer and I was able to install and spit out a test page.
