Working as a new Patent Examiner. A lot of my fellow new examiners seem to have very outdated (20-25 years ago) views on Linux :0

Excerpts from the team chat:

Other: "is the OC still not working for everyone? i restarted and relaunched my OC"

Other: "yeah it lags for me too"

Me: "The USPTO should just switch everything to Linux at this point, way more efficient"

Other: "linux doesn't have as much software availability as windows"

Me: "What software would be missing? We only need basic software"

Me: "Have you even heard of Linux before? There are Linux versions of some of these, and alternative for others"

Other: "linux is kind of annoying to configure, especially when you have to deal with dependencies yeah, I've used LInux before. I like it for writing code but when it comes to actually using software, it's not the best."

Other: "Blender doesn't always work on LInux, Ultimaker Cura doesn't always work on LInux, and whenever you update packages in Linux sometimes you have to fix dependency issues. For me at least it's ok for writing code but other than that, it's not that great

Zero production is being made because everyone would be in kernels all day instead of searching"

Me: "Some versions are easier to configure than Windows nowadays"

Other: "Also, I am pretty sure Linux can not be used for government work because of security permissions"

Other: "yeah linux is probably better or whatever but the PTO has already spent all this money developing tools for and training people to use windows. I think that's the big barrier why the promised linux-ization of Brazil and Europe and India never really happened"
