Apple Product Prices Could Rise Again as TSMC Plans Higher Chip Costs

Apple customers may face another round of price increases after TSMC reportedly decided to raise chipmaking prices from 2027. Apple has already increased prices across several product categories because of higher memory and storage costs, while analysts also expect new iPhone models to cost more when they launch in September. The company recently raised prices on several products and upgrade options, with some increases exceeding 50%. In a few cases, memory and storage upgrades doubled in price, which made higher-end configurations much more expensive for customers. Apple said it was working to reduce the impact of rising component costs, although many customers expect the new prices to remain permanent. Higher prices also appear likely to affect buying habits, as some users plan to keep their devices longer or choose lower storage options. TSMC Plans Chipmaking Price Increases Nikkei Asia reports that TSMC plans to increase prices for advanced and mature chip production services by between 5% and 10% in 2027. The company reportedly wants to cover higher costs linked to materials, manufacturing equipment, and the construction of new factories outside Taiwan. The report also claims that TSMC may charge customers an additional premium of up to 15% when they increase orders beyond their original forecasts. Apple could face this extra cost when demand for a new iPhone, Mac, or iPad exceeds its initial production estimates. TSMC reportedly completed pricing negotiations with several major customers, although the company declined to discuss specific details. Apple relies heavily on TSMC to manufacture chips for the iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, and several other products. Higher chipmaking costs would add more pressure to Apple’s hardware pricing at a time when memory costs have already pushed prices upward. Apple may absorb part of the increase, reduce margins, or pass more of the cost to customers through higher device prices and more expensive upgrade options.
