Reacher Season 4 Episode 2 Recap: The Flash Drive Mystery Gets More Dangerous

Reacher Season 4, Episode 2, titled “Cage Fight,” throws Jack Reacher straight back into danger as he wakes up imprisoned, escapes CIA custody and follows a trail that makes Anna’s death even harder to explain. Tamara Green and Jacob Merrick are being held nearby, and Reacher quickly concludes that the CIA has captured them while searching for the missing flash drive at the center of the investigation. Reacher eventually gets free, takes down his interrogators and uses a car jack to bend the bars holding Tamara and Jacob. Their escape becomes more complicated when additional agents arrive, but freelance journalist Russell Plum unexpectedly helps them get away. Plum has already been investigating what he believes is a secret CIA facility. The group then separates to chase different leads. Tamara and Jacob return to Anna’s house and find it ransacked, while Anna’s car has disappeared. They also discover that Ben has missed football practice, raising fears that he has become another target connected to Anna’s death. The Search for Ben Leads to Another Murder Reacher, Tamara and Jacob eventually follow Ben’s movements to his fraternity house, where they learn he recently left with an OnlyFans model. When investigators locate her apartment, they find her murdered after what appears to have been careful knife torture. Reacher suspects the same professional killers who previously attacked him and Lila. The discovery widens the case because several groups now appear to be searching for the same flash drive, including government agents and trained killers. Episode 2 makes it increasingly clear that Anna’s subway death involved something much larger than the apparent political scandal introduced earlier in the season. Season 4 adapts Lee Child’s Gone Tomorrow and started with Reacher seeing Anna kill herself on a New York subway. That event pulled him into a conspiracy involving classified information, Congressman John Sampson, the missing flash drive and Lila, who has leukemia. Previous Reacher seasons followed separate cases, including the Margrave conspiracy in Season 1, the murder of members of Reacher’s former military unit in Season 2 and his undercover operation against Zachary Beck in Season 3. Reacher Finds a Major New Lead Reacher later confronts Sampson and becomes convinced that the congressman does not understand what Anna was really involved in. Sampson denies knowing her before her death and rejects the theory surrounding a secret child, even offering DNA evidence. The bigger development comes outside the hotel when Reacher recognizes Sampson’s chief of staff, Nolan Cahill, as the missing witness from the night Anna died. That connection gives Reacher his strongest lead yet and points the investigation toward someone much closer to Sampson’s political operation. Reacher Season 4 launched with its first three episodes on August 12, while Episode 4, “Karambits and Pieces,” arrives August 19. New episodes continue weekly through the September 16 finale.
