Blizzard announced today a massive DDoS attack that crippled its network, disrupting services in both the EU and US regions. The attack targeted the company's Battle.net servers, used by a slew of games, including Blizzard's bestsellers such as Overwatch, Hearthstone, and World of Warcraft. During the attack, users weren't able to authenticate on the game servers and could not log in and play. The attack lasted for three hours and took place between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM US East Coast time, or 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM London time. The DDoS hit Blizzard's servers right as the final day of the Overwatch Summer Games event was ready to get started. Overwatch's website has been inaccessible all day and is down at the time of writing. The attack is very strange, mainly because nobody has claimed responsibility. Usually, whenever Blizzard's servers go down for maintenance even for 10 minutes, countless of wannabe hacking crews pop up on Twitter claiming they're behind it. ... ...
