Attackers accessed GitHub repositories linked to Meta, exposing mostly software code and a smaller amount of personal information. Around 1,500 people were reportedly notified.

Repositories can contain sensitive information that developers don't always realize is there, including proprietary code, access tokens, and personal data. Security doesn't stop at keeping a repository private. Organizations also need to review permissions, monitor newly created repositories, and decide how outside code gets approved before entering their networks.

A convenient download can introduce risks if nobody checks where the code came from or what it contains.

Does your organization review its repositories and vet downloaded code, or is it mostly left up to individual developers?
