CVE-2019-5177 | An exploitable stack buffer overflow vulnerability vulnerability exists in the iocheckd service ‘I/O-Check’ functionality of WAGO PFC 200 Firmware version 03.02.02(14). The destination buffer sp+0x440 is overflowed with the call to sprintf() for any domainname values that are greater than 1024-len(‘/etc/config-tools/edit_dns_server domain-name=‘) in length. A domainname value of length 0x3fa will cause the service to crash.

Improper Restriction of Operations within the Bounds of a Memory Buffer 🎯 High

The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it reads from or writes to a memory location outside the buffer's intended boundary. This may result in read or write operations on unexpected memory locations that could be linked to other variables, data structures, or internal program data.

🛡️ Empfohlene Mitigation: Use a language that does not allow this weakness to occur or provides constructs that make this weakness easier to avoid. For example, many languages that perform their own memory management, such as Java and Perl, are not subject to buffer overflows. Other languages, such as Ada and C#, typically provide overflow prot…
