As if the size it used on an iPhone was Facebook’s biggest problem, the social network this week announced an updated version of its Messenger app that eats up a lot less space on Apple’s smartphones.
Facebook has decided to put its iPhone app on a diet last year at the F8 conference as part of a project codenamed LightSpeed. The idea behind the whole thing was to reduce how much storage Messenger requires on an iPhone, especially as its size increased from a little over 8MB back in 2012 to no less than 130MB for the current version.
The simplified version of Messenger, which the social network claims it redeveloped from scratch, reduces the size it requires on an iPhone to just 30MB, while also bringing substantial improvements in terms of speed.
