The version number makes total sense given the fact it’s a direct indicator of the date when it was finalized. In the case of version 2004, the first two digits represent the year when it was signed off – so in 2020, while the other two stand for the month – the fourth month, so April.
The same system was used for the previous Windows 10 feature updates as well – Windows 10 version 1903, for instance, was finalized in March 2019.
Windows 10 version 2004 doesn’t yet have an official name, but depending on its time of launch, the update could be called “Windows 10 April 2020 Update” or “Windows 10 May 2020 Update.”
