I hope this is the right sub for my question and rant and pardon my English writing if it is not good enough. tldr is the last paragraph. I am not an expert too so don't be harsh to me :)
I have been using Windows for a decade now but finally I had my enough of its nonsense. The first thing I look for when I use a software is the performance and Windows really sucks at it.
It looks like Windows can't use my hardware right. It always lags and crashes like if it is its nature.
When it boots, it lags and I have to not touch it for a few minutes then I open my browser or the file manager and it also lags here and I have to wait!
There is also this amount of crashes and problems you have to live with, you are basically using the OS to fix it!
I am using the elementary OS now because it is good out of the box and the performance is much better! Once it boots I am good to start using it without experiencing any lagging!
I immediately open my whatever apps I need and they work great and smooth! I suggested Linux to my friend too and he is in love with it!
This is just one point between Windows and Linux. Linux also is more customizable, powerful (the terminal is just awesome) and to my surprise, it is much easier to use than windows!
What was holding me back (and holds others too as I think) is believing that Linux is complicated and I have to learn a lot of unnecessary stuff just to run the system but I was wrong! It is much simpler.
Windows is the complicated one with its stupid control panel and that ton load of unnecessary settings that don't actually get you to the customization you want. Windows file manager alone is a disaster.
Linux only gets deep as you want it to get. It is your desire to learn actually useful things and commands. It is not necessary but interesting and opens a new path for you!
All the tweaks and solutions I have learnt at Windows are useless and I forget them often so I have to research them again because they aren't interesting at all. Windows is just boring!
So to my question why does Windows performance suck by it is own and compared to Linux? Is it the Linux kernel just better than Windows? Why is a huge company like Microsoft beaten by just a community of developers? Can't Microsoft study Linux code, take notes and improve its OS?
