Making linux fast by disabling Spectre Meltdown Mitigations in the Kernel?

Recently I came across a hacker news discussion on disabling Spectre Meltdown mitigations in the kernel to make your machine faster. The whole premise is of course that a user/admin should be able to decide if they can tolerate the risk for performance benefits.
