Excuse me if I am posting in the wrong sub, but I have this question in my mind. I'm sitting here with my laptop(Ubuntu) on which I do all my work, an old iMac (A1224,Ubuntu) and a TV. I would like to have a setup where I could just plug my laptop in and have a triple screen setup. Now, the iMac and my laptop both have an Ethernet port, so I thought maybe the following was possible: connect my TV to the iMac over DP->HDMI, connect my laptop to the iMac directly with an Ethernet cable, open a VNC connection between the iMac and my laptop, and hopefully setting the TV and iMac up as external displays of my laptop.
Now, this is just an idea that came to my mind. I don't know if this is possible, and if its a good idea. The TV is 1080p and the iMac has a resolution of 1680x1050. I could of course connect my TV directly to the laptop over HDMI, but if the Ethernet cable would have sufficient bandwith to power both displays, I would rather have that, so I can have the convenience of only plugging in one cable.
I would like to hear your ideas on whether this is possible, and if so, maybe you can recommend me certain software.
