I've noticed that many users have a very intense **rage** about customizing the official Linux distro and normally tend to oppress users who do it.
In my opinion, the desktop environment should be comfortable and pleasant for the user. Since Linux distros allow you to modify it for your better suit, why not? This is a huge advantage of Linux compared to MS and Apple os. In my personal experience, it is also very attractive to new users.
Every distro or application I test I like to play with its customizations, give it a different look. I try it out to see what better suits me. Now and then I share a little of my environments, and the Linux community tends not to be very welcoming. "Why modifying the distro? Don't like it, don't use it". At the same time, I always receive a lot of new users questions on how did I customized it, what is this application that they appear to like,
I believe that if normal OS users are attracted by the environment looks, and Linux gives you the freedom of modifying it the way you want.. well, that's a win. The Linux community wins every time a new user decides to try out a new Linux distro, so why raging so much about it? Let the user modify the distro to a theme similar to what they are used to. If the user wants it to look like windows, Mac or whatever, what is the problem?
The whole discussion is nonsense to me because it's a personal preference choice and the user is the only one who has to be satisfied with his environment. But, I think that Reddit needed these thoughts.
Go ahead, throw me some rocks.
