Hello, I have an entry-level laptop that is several years old and is pretty weak (intel Celeron, 2 GB ram, 32 GB eMMC), making windows very frustrating to use. I've tinkered with Linux before on my Samsung Chromebook Plus, but that has been somewhat limited because it is a Chromebook and because it has an ARM (ARM64-compatible) processor. This laptop is not my primary laptop, so while I would like it to be less painfully slow, I don't need to run a very lightweight distro and will mainly use it for tinkering (by which I mean some JS and python development, automation, light productivity, and generally familiarizing myself with Linux).
While I am fairly new to Linux, due to my previous experience while Crostini Debian, I would rather get advice here. Any recommendations for a capable, intermediate-friendly distro that performs well on low-end hardware and is well-suited for tinkering? Because of my experience with Crostini (and Raspbian), up-to-date Debian or Debian-based distros (I've never tried Ubuntu) are preferable.
