How do I automate CPU usage?

Say for example I am running a performance test on a Linux application and feeding it thousands of database query.

I am using Jmeter to do performance testing for my application. And using "top" command to see the CPU usage.

But this is a manual task, is there any way to have this process automated so I can run longevity tests and leave the system and come back to when it has a report for me. Like what was the highest/lowest CPU usage by my application.

P.S: I know about Prometheus. I'm looking for something else.
