Why doesn't my linux system detect the correct resolution of my monitor?

I upgraded my monitor to a Samsung CRG9 49" 5120x1440 with 109ppi. I have a Geforce GTX 1050 card with nvidia first party drivers.

When I first go into X, nvidia-settings will only detect 3840x1080 resolution. I have to manually set it to the correct 5120x1440. It also will only detect 80 dpi and I have to manually set the ppi(notice not dpi but I think they are the same?) to xrandr --dpi 109.

Why doesn't my linux system detect the correct monitor resolution and ppi?
