I was required to use Linux for my studies but I also like to mess around with some CTF sometimes so first guess was to use Ubuntu because it is good for a general purpose and also was supported by my professor and TA's. But then I thought why not give a shot to ParrotOS, it is Debian based so most things should work out of the box and it has tons of support. So I dual booted and everything seems fine, it is beautiful and I like Mate desktop. However it is buggy and it lacks somethings. First thing that I noticed is that it doesn't have a software center, where users could see programs and isntall/update/remove, I know it shouldn't be a big problem to find programs but it is just more convenient to have a software center. But the biggest problem is that it is glitchy, many times freezes and the only solution afaik is to hold the power button and do a hard reset. Another bug that I have noticed is that when I am trying to do a multiline selecting code, it just grabs the screen and moves it around because the mouse is in grab mode (no idea how it is called properly). I don't know if they collect usage stats and crash data but they must do it to see where it is having the problem. Overall I really like as OS and I will keep using for a while, it is useful but with a grain of salt. Hopefully it will become better because as much as we criticize Ubuntu, the good thing about it is that it just works.
