I have been running various linux distros on thin clients for years, the problems started maybe two years ago, but now I see I am encountering this issue even with CentOS 8 which is pretty incredible as my impression of CentOS from version 6 has always been that it is very well polished.
On thin clients like HP t620s to Dell Wyse 5070s, the distros Ubuntu 18.04, 20.04, Debian 10 (although installing a package for Debian 10 actually solved the issue), and CentOS 8 (installing haveged did not solve the issue) are encountering problems where if they boot headless, I can not access services like ssh, zoneminder, vsftpd, unless I plug a monitor and keyboard into the computer and log in manually. There are supposed to be packages that fix this, it actually worked for Debian, but not for CentOS 8 and out of frustration, I did not try installing the package for Ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04 server install but why are so many distros shipping without these packages? I feel in a few more years when 16.04 is completely dead I am going to be stuck. I have already resorted to FreeBSD on one of my 5070s, which is funny because it seems linux is going backwards, as in 2020 I encountered 0 issues with FreeBSD but many with linux and 8 years ago it would be the opposite.
This continuation is a rant, but Ubuntu 20.04 server install doesn't add the netplan 'optional: true' parameter to interfaces so after 20.04 finished installing it stayed waiting infinitely for a network connection (I had none plugged in). On top of that LLVM uses only half or less of the available disk space and I need to manually run two commands to use up the whole space.
