๐ [Disscussion] | Is having so many distributions a positive or a negative for Linux as a whole (adoption, current users, desktop, server, etc)

Do you think having hundreds of distros is to the benefit of the Linux community? The arguement could be made that no, it isn't because it is overwhelming for new users. However, I began thinking recently, its definitely a plus because no one person ever has to use a piece of software. Don't like systemd? Use Gentoo, Alpine, Artix, Kiss, Slackware or one of many others. The Linux kernel itself is really the other required piece of software, and if your not using that then arguably your not using Linux and it doesnt apply. But I want to hear some other peoples thoughts on this. Share your mind (respectfully with regards to everyone else)
EDIT After the first couple comments, I want to make it a little more clear what I am asking. I think we can all agree having multiple different distros is a good thing ex: rolling release for new software, stable point release for servers, etc, but is it too much that we have 100+ distributions? Maybe you like the choice (I do too), but is it too much for newbies? You could make an arguement either way, but I'm not saying the idea of distros altogether is debatable (although if you disagree with that I'll gladly hear your side)
