Noticed that some macbook air reviews say that for many tasks (using macOs) have 16gb ram makes not much of a difference to 8gb ram.

They say it is because mac apps are optimized for the specific hardware.

Wondering whether anyone has an experience or knowledge of running a linux os instead of the macOs on an M1 macbook air, and how this may affect speed and battery life..
