Event not found for basic command?

Hi, so I'm completely new to linux. I am trying to learn linux so I can eventually move on to pen-testing. While following a guide the instuctor is showing how to clear the command history with the ($ history -c) command. My issue is whenever I try to do the same the terminal says "fc: event not found: -c" I don't get why one of the most basic of commands is not working. I am using kali linux on virtualbox
