Linux Backdoor?

I had a previous post removed by mods, perhaps due to the link, but if you search for "Bvp47 Linux backdoor" you should see a few articles.

Basically to paraphrase the articles: "The Advanced Cyber Security Research team at Pangu Lab, a Chinese cybersecurity company, says that it found the elusive malware.

A report released today dives deep into technical aspects of a Linux backdoor now tracked as Bvp47 that is linked to the Equation Group, the advanced persistent threat actor tied to the U.S. National Security Agency.

Bvp47 survived until today almost undetected, despite being submitted to the Virus Total antivirus database for the first time close to a decade ago, in late 2013. Vulnrable platforms include Juniper’s JunOS, FreeBSD, and Solaris"

It has also been posted around Reddit but surprisingly very little response, I wanted to get the Linux community's thoughts:

Why do you think it was undetected for so long? Is the source reputable?

Some of the comments to the articles state a lack of propriety malware tools in Linux to find this stuff and as Linux gets more popular, more will be uncovered...however I don't buy this at all, Linux has always been a huge target considering key infrastructure systems are run with it, it's due to its core security that these types of articles are kept to a minimum, still, it is a concern, what do you think?
