Desktop environment colors API

Is there an existing project made to detect the desktop environment used and retrieve its system colors (eg: if GNOME extract colors from GTK theme, if KDE extract colors from kdeglobals)? I'm asking this because I've been developing a Golang FLTK app and I'd like it to look less out of place, at least being able to match people's color schemes. I imagine something like this would be useful for pretty much any widget kit besides GTK or QT. FLTK does have a function to do this, but it uses xresources so it doesn't actually work with any modern DE
