Does spaces before or after the equal(=) operator in a variable assignment matter, in a .conf file?

For example, I am trying to edit a .conf file line like the below

wifi.powersave = 2

Now, if I remove or add spaces before or after the equal operator, would it matter? For example:

1. wifi.powersave=2
2. wifi.powersave = 2
3. wifi.powersave = 2

Is this the same as writing like this : wifi.powersave = 2 ?
