I used FreeBSD/Linux a long time ago and I am getting the itch to leave Windows on my desktop again after a decade or two.
My question is which virtualization platform (KMS or VMWare workstation) should I use to run my Microsoft software to do lab work for Azure and other products on my home PC?
I am willing to pay $199 if it is good and gets the job done. My requirements are I need virtual network switches/routers which I plan to use OPNsense/PfSense to network my vms together. I need suburb Windows Server and Windows Desktop VM tools. I still plan to dual boot to game. VMWare workstation offers and I wonder if KMS does as well.
I am also weary of VMWare workstation after my bad experiences. Is it stable and reliable? I know eSXI is but their type 2 hypervisor a decade ago was utter crap and I hope it improved. My AMD phenom II with it's AMD filter driver played havoc 10 years ago on the hypervisor. If KMS is stable and mature and offers virtual network switches and good client support I may dip my toes in Linux again as I like type 1 hypervisors :-)
Oh, I also use Intel RST raid 0. Do any distros offer dual boot for this out of the box? FreeBSD does with Geom but I was curious if anyone has a similar setup and has experience
