New CIO appointments, June 2022

Northwestern Mutual appoints Jeff Sippel Chief Information Officer

With more than $570 billion in combined company and client assets, and $34 billion in revenues, Northwestern Mutual serves nearly five million people with insurance, annuities, brokerage and advisory services. Sippel previously served as VP, Client Experience, leading digital strategy and financial planning strategies, since joining the company in 2019. Prior to Northwestern Mutual, Sippel held the role of Chief Technology Officer and Chief Strategy Officer at Acorns, a financial technology and financial services company. He holds an MBA from Northwestern University and a BS in industrial engineering from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

Brett Craig promoted to EVP & CIO at Target

Craig will report to Cara Sylvester, recently named EVP & Chief Guest Experience Officer at the 2,000-store retail chain. Craig joined Target in 2008 and most recently was its SVP of Digital. During his time at Target, Craig has held leadership roles across a variety of business areas, including technology and merchandising. Mike McNamara, Target’s executive vice president and chief information officer since 2015, shared his intent to retire. With the appointment of Craig to chief information officer, McNamara will transition to a strategic advisory role with the company through the end of January 2023.

Springs Window Fashions names Chetan Balsara CIO

Springs Window Fashions is a global supplier of blinds, shades, specialty treatments and window hardware. Its brands include Bali, Graber, SunSetter and others. Based in Middleton, WI, Springs employs more than 9,000 associates. Previously, Balsara spent 10 years as CIO at Davis-Standard, a Connecticut-based global leader in extrusion/converting technology in rubber and plastics. He earned a BE degree in Electronics from University of Mumbai.

Chris Clark joins Black Rifle Coffee Company as CTO

Black Rifle Coffee Company (BRCC) is a newly public, rapidly growing, mission-driven premium coffee company founded to support veterans, active-duty military, and first responders. A technology professional with deep retail experience, Clark most recently served as CIO of Levi Strauss & Co. Prior to Levi’s, he was VP of Supply Chain Solutions at lululemon athletica. His career also includes multiple senior leadership positions at GAP Inc. Clark graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point, with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Brown & Brown hires Kiet Tran as CTO

Brown & Brown, Inc. (NYSE: BRO) is a leading insurance brokerage firm founded in 1939. The company has more than 12,000 employees in 350+ locations across the U.S. and select global markets. Most recently, Tran was VP of IT Infrastructure & Operations at ADT. Prior to ADT he spent 12 years at KeyBank in a succession of roles including SVP Director,- Core Infrastructure & Business Transformation. Tran holds a BS degree in Business from University of Virginia.

Craig Kwiatkowski, PharmD, named CIO at Cedars-Sinai

Cedars-Sinai is a nonprofit academic healthcare organization serving the diverse Los Angeles community and beyond. It serves more than 1 million people each year in over 40 locations, with more than 4,500 physicians and nurses. Kwiatkowski’s full title at Cedars-Sinai is SVP of Enterprise Information Services and Chief Information Officer. Previously, Kwiatkowski was at the University of Chicago Hospitals, where he served in operational and clinical leadership roles. He earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Chicago College of Pharmacy and began his academic medical center career as an inpatient pharmacist.

Donatos names Steven Graves Chief Information Officer

Founded in 1963 in Columbus, Ohio, Donatos Pizzeria is a restaurant franchiser with over 375 locations in 22 U.S. states. Most recently, Graves was Vice President of IT at Walmart/Sam’s Club. Prior to Walmart, he was VP of Enterprise Technology & Cloud Services Automation at American Airlines. Graves studied business at Columbus State Community College and Franklin University.

XIFIN appoints John Kelly as Chief Information Officer

XIFIN is a healthcare information technology company that leverages diagnostic information to improve the quality and economics of healthcare. Most recently, Kelly served as CTO of PatientKeeper, working on the company’s EHR optimization software solution that focuses on clinician workflows. Previously, he spent more than a decade with Cigna, where he served as chief technologist across multiple business units. He earned a BBA degree in Computer Information Systems from Texas State University.

Cenlar FSB appoints Steven Taylor as SVP & CIO

Headquartered in Ewing, NJ, Cenlar FSB is a federally chartered wholesale bank, servicing more than three million mortgage loans from more than 150 banks, credit unions and mortgage bankers. Most recently, Taylor was President and CEO of his own consulting firm where he advised C-suite corporate leaders on technology investments and driving transformative growth. Before he was a consultant, he held multiple roles at Fidelity National Financial and Fidelity Information Services, including Account & Technical Delivery Executive, in which he guided and coached a multidisciplinary technical team of over 110 professionals.

Foley Equipment welcomes Kirk Hay as its new CIO

Foley Equipment specializes in service, parts, rental and sales across a broad line of Caterpillar and Allied Construction equipment and power generation. The company has 1,100 employees. Most recently, Hay served as the CIO for Jack Cooper Investments, a North American leader in automotive transportation and logistics. Earlier, Hay held a variety of senior technology roles at Jack Henry & Associates, NPC/National City Bank, J.B Hunt Transportation and Papa John’s. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Evangel University, Springfield, Missouri.

Lincoln Electric names Lisa Dietrich EVP & CIO

Headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, Lincoln Electric is a leader in advanced arc welding solutions, automated joining, assembly and cutting systems, and plasma and oxy-fuel cutting equipment. The company has 56 manufacturing locations in 19 countries. Dietrich joins Lincoln Electric from American Greetings, where she served as CIO and VP of Business Transformation during her 11 years with the organization. Earlier she served as Portfolio CIO at Key Community Bank. Dietrich earned a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and International Business from Ohio University, and an MBA from the Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland.

Brown Harris Stevens names Chris Reyes Chief Information & Product Officer

Brown Harris Stevens is a large, privately-held real estate firm with 2,500 agents and 50+ offices on the East Coast.  Reyes joins BHS after seven years as CTO at mortgage bank GuardHill Financial Corp. Prior to GuardHill, Reyes worked in residential real estate technology for more than 15 years for several firms, including Citi-Habitats/The Corcoran Group. He attended Hunter College in New York, NY.

Adventist Health appoints Jennifer Stemmler as Chief Digital Officer

Adventist Health is a faith-inspired integrated healthcare system serving communities through more than 400 sites of care in California, Oregon and Hawaii. Stemmler had been serving as VP, Consumer Digital Strategy at Adventist, implementing many of the organization’s first consumer digital solutions. She has held additional strategic IT roles at Adventist since joining the organization in 2013. She earned a degree in Business Administration, Management of Information Systems & Organizational Behavior from California State University, Sacramento.

First Bank hires Terrence Thomas as CIO

First Bank is the banking subsidiary of First Bancorp and is headquartered in Southern Pines, North Carolina, with total assets of approximately $10.7 billion. A state-chartered community bank, First Bank operates 110 bank branches in North Carolina and South Carolina. Thomas was most recently the VP of Workplace Engineering, Architecture & Strategy for Goldman Sachs in New York. Thomas received a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Mississippi, an MBA in Technology Management, Graduate Certificate in Project Management and an MSc in Telecommunications Management from Stevens Institute of Technology.

Saket Srivastava joins Asana as CIO

Headquartered in San Francisco, Asana is a leading work management company whose software products help teams orchestrate their work, projects, and strategic initiatives. Srivastava joined Asana from Block, a fintech company formerly known as Square, where he was Head of Business Technology/CIO for nearly three years. Earlier he held IT leadership positions at Guidewire Software, Symantec, Fujitsu, and IBM. He earned a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Computer Science in India, and an MBA from University of California Berkeley Haas School of Business.

Mike Macrie has joined Melissa & Doug as CIO

Melissa & Doug is a global toy company based in Connecticut and known for its wooden toy portfolio. Most recently, as CIO of Subway, Macrie spent two years transforming and rebuilding the company’s digital platforms. He also served as SVP and CIO at Land O’Lakes for over five years. He currently serves on the boards of Yext and Coherent Solutions. Macrie earned a BS degree in Engineering Physics from Cornell University, and an MBA from Duke University Fuqua School of Business.
