Hi.

Situation: i will start a new position (phd STEM, deep learning, remote sensing, CV) and therefore get to choose my weapon.

Constraint: institution wont order apple products.

Hardware: DELL 5570, max specs.

Question: What are the best options to setup a new machine? I have used linux servers and linux command line but never started from scratch. I could always use structures that were already there, or make use of macOS that automatically/magically does things. Knowing that I can do almost anything setting up this new computer leaves me overwhelmed. Any recommendations?

F.e., what do you all use to install new programs such as zotero or obsidian? Snaps? Always the same package manager if possible or alwasys the quickest one? Thanks for any comment. xx
