Fans of the upcoming open-world sci-fi RPG Starfield have launched an online campaign petitioning Bethesda to include an in-game tribute to Alex Hay.
Hay, the developer of Toolbox Pro and other iOS apps, was an avid gamer who was eagerly anticipating Starfield along with millions of other gamers. But when the gameโs initial release date of November 11, 2022 was delayed, Hay posted on the Starfield subreddit saying that he likely wouldnโt get to play it, referencing his battle with lung cancer. In the post Hay said,
Bit gutted at the date reveal as Iโve been following this project for years and now it looks like I wonโt get to play it.โ

Hay added in his post that โplaying my Xbox is a great form of escapism for me but holding out another 6 months is unlikely soโฆ enjoy it on my behalf!โ
Hay lost his battle shortly after; the sad news was announced on MacStories. Now, other Starfield fans are making a push to honor their fellow gamer by naming their ships and characters after Alex. Additionally, some have started a campaign with the hashtag #AlexInStarfield on Twitter in the hopes of getting Bethesdaโs attention.

The campaign is meant to persuade Bethesda to pay in-game tribute to Alex. While this may not likely happen at the gameโs launch, given thatย Starfieldย should be close to wrapping up development, it could be included in a post-launch update.
It would not be the first time a gamer has been honored in such a way. Others include Michael Mamaril in Borderlands 2, Ezra Chatterton inย World of Warcraft, and several others.
